The militarized police in my state have fucktons of Toyota SW4s, Turbo-Diesel I think. Bull-bars and rifle cabinets are standard for extra oppression.

Two ends of the spectrum here. On one end, we've got this embarrassing thing.
And on the other end of the spectrum, we get vehicles like this 6x6 Defender for bomb disposal purposes. It sees a surprising amount of action.

OPP is Ontario Provincial Police, Highway cars, they also have Explorers.

Over here in Seekonk, MA where I work, they've got Ford Crown Victorias, Tauruses, and Explorers, a Chevrolet Caprice PPV, a Dodge Charger, and an undercover 2000 Honda Accord.

VW Transporters are popular.
To keep things interesting, we have also this.

We have an undercover 300C with like 24 inch rims. I've seen it pull someone over, weirdest thing ever. I haven't seen anything undercover since then other than Crown Vics, Chargers and Tauruses

Don't forget the friendly neighbourhood Crown Vics. This thing still looks so mean cruising the rural roads of Ontario.

The Staties are almost 100% switched over to these:
though we do have at least a couple of these...
the Town Cops are all over the map, lot of Crown Vics still out there,
plus some Luminas/Malibus..
plenty of these...
and a bunch of these as well.
long ago we used to have these!

They have been quite uncommon in Mississauga. Toronto still has them. I haven't seen a Peel Regional Police Crown Vic in a while. I haven't seen an OPP one either, but then again, OPP cars are hard to come by unless they have pulled someone over.

Would you rather have this?

No pics, but I saw a new Ford Escape in the local Sheriff livery yesterday and couldn't help but laugh. Whoever drives that must have drawn short straw, because otherwise they have V8 Caprices.

During the summer I regularly make the drive between Ottawa and Gravenhurst through Bancroft and they're still the choice out there. Not a fan of that profile in the mirror haha

Here's a family photo of the State Police lineup. From left to right.
Mustang GT undercover, Chargers, Harley Davidson patrol bike, another Mustang, a plane, DOT pickup undercover vehicle, blacked out Charger, the classic Crown Vic.
Closeup of the silver Mustang. It's literally impossible to tell it's a police car.
This is a different car, but it looks like this when it lights up. It's also Indiana State Police.

I really do not understand why wagon police cars aren't a thing in the states. In Washington everyone is switching over to explorers... Which is the same thing just heavier and slower. I mean personally, as someone one who allegedly exceeds the speed limit by 1 or 2 mph on occasion, I'm ok with slow heavy cops... But also I'd like the bad guys to get caught and it's my tax dollars.
![]() 03/18/2015 at 14:16 |

well they made do with sedans for long enough, do they really need to carry that much shit?
I've heard that US police are switching to SUVs due to the ride height so they can bust people for using their phones...
Wagons are the way to go though, as Orlove one said: "plus you can fuck in them"

Taxis in Toronto have an Intrepid on their logo, but I haven't seen an Intrepid Taxi in my entire life. It's weird.

I have an Austin address, but we live in the county, so calling 911 gets you the Travis County Sheriff's Office. The TCSO is transitioning from ugly brown Crown Vics to the Tahoe as their primary patrol vehicle. The City of Austin is switching from the CV to an all Taurus/Exolorer fleet of standard black and white, since our police chief used to work in Los Angeles.

What I find interesting is the emphasis in many parts of Europe on making the police cars as highly visible as possible, while in the US the emphasis seems to be on stealth. Big push bars on the front are usually a giveaway, though.

If you're in texas I suggest you just google image a police vehicle instead of actually taking a picture in the near future unless you want to be arrested http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/13/bil…

Narrow streets man. You need people to get out of the way as fast as possible. Making cars highly visible really helps.

I imagine those aren't great at high speed pursuits, that Defender is awesome though. Are there many bomb threats?
![]() 03/18/2015 at 15:06 |

Why would they need that? We don't have that and our low-life criminals have AKs and SMGs, they almost took down a helicopter with an RPG last year.

County Sheriffs car. They're pretty neat in person.

I had thought it was something to do with ground clearance, but then I talked to my friend who's dad is a Seattle PD officer and apparently they scrape on speed bumps because of course they do.

We have it because all the other police forces in the greater toronto area have one and we felt left out. The other reason we have it is because someone threatened to detonate a car bomb and we had to call another police force with one.
It's main use is for gun calls or risky arrests. Yet it's only been used a handful of times.
$340k for an armoured truck that will never be used. Ok.
